Understanding
the importance of healthcare...

Senator Carona's strong grasp on
our state's healthcare issues comes
from having served six years as
a member of the Health and Human
Services Committee. "As a legislator,
I've carried substantial legislation
to safeguard the rights of patients
and control healthcare costs,"
he states.
“Finding healthcare solutions
is a challenge here in Dallas County
as well as at the state level,”
said John Carona. “Spending
on health and human services programs
is the second largest component
of the state budget. We need to
fund healthcare services to our
most needy, who cannot provide for
themselves, and then there are those
who do not qualify for services
because of their income and yet
cannot afford health insurance premiums
for their family.”
"As a free market advocate,
I am a strong believer that Texas
needs to provide the uninsured an
affordable health insurance product
for catastrophic care."
His mastery is also the result of
"real world" experience
as a corporate CEO. As a business
owner, Carona understands the importance
of making health insurance available
to his employees as well as the
cost to employers. "But,"
he says, "mandates are not
an option."
Provisions of SB 10 that was passed
during the recent session of the
Texas Legislature seek to reduce
the number of uninsured by providing
a framework for health insurance
premium assistance programs and
incentives for more employers to
offer health care insurance.
Through his years of service in
the Texas Senate, John Carona has
been recognized by the Mental Health
Association of Greater Dallas, the
Texas Hospital Association and the
Texas Medical Association, among
others, for his efforts to improve
the awareness and quality of care
for persons living with mental illness,
the overall quality of patient care,
and access to healthcare.
John Carona has a solid track record
as a public servant, having someone
with practical experience as an
employer lends an unqualified expertise
not often found in elected office.
